Purpose and Authority:

The Privacy and Ethics Standing Committee (PESC) will deal with issues of privacy and confidentiality issues related to data collection, patient confidentiality in an EMR environment relating to ethics approvals. This committee is not a research ethics board (REB) but will be responsible for developing a system of multicentre ethics assessments to assist regional networks to meet applicable research ethics board requirements to facilitate national research projects and studies.  The PESC will assist/coordinate the REB approval process and support the regional networks to ensure ethics approvals are received in a timely manner.  The Committee will also document ethics and privacy best practices and distribute to regional networks.
